As is widely known, in recent years, the application range of powder coatings has been continuously expanding, and the coating industry's requirements for the content of volatile organic compounds have become increasingly stringent. Simultaneously, there is growing concern regarding the use of water-based nano antibacterial and mildew-proof coatings on the surfaces of various mechanical and household products. Especially in public places, such as hospitals, stricter requirements have been put forward for the antibacterial effect of instruments and their surface coatings, thus increasing the demand for water-based nano antibacterial and mildew-proof coatings. Water-based nano antibacterial and mildew-proof coatings can be treated by washing. To water-wash an antibacterial powder coating sample, first rinse the surface of the sample with about 50 ml of tap water. Then, add some detergent and wipe it, using a cloth to wipe approximately 50 times. After that, rinse the surface dirt with tap water. After 50 washes, the antibacterial properties of the coating can be tested.
Water-based nano antibacterial coatings can also undergo wastewater boiling treatment. The sample is placed directly in boiling water at 100℃ for two hours. After another hour, its performance is tested to detect the stability of the coating in a high-temperature environment. UV irradiation treatment can also be used. For this UV aging treatment, the antibacterial properties can be tested after 24 and 48 hours respectively. By placing the sample in a 200℃ constant-temperature electric oven for one hour and then testing its color difference, the color stability of the coating can be ensured.
In the selection process of antibacterial agents for antibacterial powder coatings, it was found that the antibacterial properties of the coatings varied after the addition of different antibacterial agents. Among them, the glass network structured silver ion antibacterial agent showed better antibacterial effects. Using inner extrusion combined with outer mixing to add 2% of the antibacterial agent, the prepared powder coating has excellent physical properties and outstanding antibacterial performance. The coating still exhibits excellent antibacterial performance after water washing, boiling, high-temperature, and UV irradiation treatment.
Water-based nano antibacterial and mildew-proof coatings can be applied to the surface coating of metal structural parts.
