Introduction to Metallic Paint

Metallic paint, also known as metallic flash paint, has fine metal powder (such as aluminum powder, copper powder, etc.) added to its base. After the light hits the metal powder, it is reflected through the gas film. So it looks as if the metal is glowing. This metallic glitter paint gives a pleasant, light and novel feeling. By changing the shape and size of the metal powder, the brightness of the metallic glitter paint film can be controlled; on the outside of the metallic paint, a layer of varnish is usually added for protection.

Metallic paints are usually water-based and solvent-based. While water-based paints are environmentally friendly, metal powders are unstable in water and air, and often deteriorate due to chemical reactions. Therefore, the surface of metal powder used in water-based coatings requires special treatment, resulting in high price and limited use. Currently, metallic coatings are mainly solvent-based. Depending on the base resin, solvent-based metallics include acrylic metallics and fluorocarbon metallics.

The main field of application for metallic paints is the automotive industry. The outer surface of the car is sprayed with metallic paint, which can not only make the painted sheet metal surface look more shiny and attractive, but also make the color and even the outline of the car change at different angles due to the refraction of light. This is one of the reasons why "metallic paint" is becoming more and more common, making the whole car look richer and more interesting.
