Advantages, construction methods, and technical requirements of heavy anti-corrosion coatings
Release time:2022-08-11
With the development of modern industry, people's requirements for anti-corrosion coatings are no longer limited to simple anti-corrosion; they also demand acid and alkali resistance, aesthetic appearance, and long service life. Therefore, heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings have emerged. Below, let's look at the advantages, construction methods, and technical requirements of heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings.
I. Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings Advantages
1. Protective effect: Materials such as metal, wood, and concrete are often exposed to the atmosphere, and gradually deteriorate due to erosion from water, salt spray, gases, acid-base substances, and microorganisms in the atmosphere.
2. Corrosion inhibition: The anti-corrosion coating layer contains chemical anti-rust pigments. When water is present, corrosion-inhibiting ions can be released from these pigments, and these ions can polarize the battery electrodes of corrosion to inhibit it. Therefore, the inhibition can compensate for the shortcomings of the barrier effect, and conversely, the barrier effect can prevent the loss of inhibiting ions, thereby making the inhibition stable and long-lasting.
3. Decorative function: Coatings have characteristics such as bright, beautiful, vibrant, and pleasing colors. Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings can change the original color of objects, coordinate colors, improve the environment, and beautify life. In national defense, the protective color of paint is also used for camouflage.
4. Marking function: Various heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings are applied as markings on ship pipelines, mechanical equipment, and signal devices, making them easy for operators to identify and operate. Traffic lines are also painted in different colors to indicate warnings, dangers, and other signals.

II. Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings Construction Methods and Technical Requirements
1. Before coating, the surface should be treated to remove dirt, and coating should proceed only after inspection and approval.
2. Anti-corrosion coatings should have product quality certificates, and the products should comply with factory quality standards.
3. Different types of coatings; if mixing is required for use, different types of coatings cannot be mixed for use.
4. When using thinners, the dosage form and amount should comply with the standards of the paint manufacturer. They should be stirred evenly, and if necessary, filtered through a fine steel mesh.
5. Welds of equipment and pipelines must undergo heat treatment, strength tests, and sealing tests, and only after passing these can coating be applied.
III. Sandblasting Treatment Regulations
1. Appropriate measures should be taken during sandblasting to prevent dust dispersion.
2. Compressed air should be dry and clean, free of moisture and oil. It can only be used after checking by the following method: place a white cloth or white painted board in the compressed air flow for 1 minute and visually inspect the surface for oil stains, water stains, and other smudges. The air filter packing should be replaced regularly, and any liquid accumulated in the air buffer tank should be drained promptly.
3. Abrasives must have a certain hardness and buffering toughness. Abrasives must be purified and screened before use. Furthermore, for natural oil-containing sand, high-quality corundum, quartz sand, or silicon river sand should be chosen, with a moisture content not exceeding 1%. The use of sea sand is strictly prohibited.
4. When sandblasting thin steel plates, the abrasive particle size and air pressure should be adapted to each other.
5. When Sa3 and Sa2 levels are required, river sand should not be used as an abrasive.
6. When the wear of the sandblasting nozzle's outlet diameter exceeds 20% of its inner diameter, the sandblasting nozzle should not be used further.
7. When abrasives are required for important use, they must comply with relevant regulations.
8. The abrasive storage area and construction site should be flat and firm to prevent abrasives from getting damp, rained on, or contaminated with impurities.
9. Unsandblasted threads, sealing surfaces, and smooth surfaces should be properly protected and not damaged.
10. During sandblasting operations, the metal surface temperature of the storage tank must be at least 3°C above the air dew point temperature; otherwise, operations should cease.
